BabyCakes Has Expanded to...Disney World

?Earlier this year, BabyCakes proprietor Erin McKenna told LA Weekly that in addition to her gluten-free bakery's newly-opened outpost in downtown Los Angeles, she dreamed of branching out to Hollywood, Santa Monica, San Francisco, Chicago, and Paris. McKenna neglected to mention Orlando, FL, but as of two Fridays ago, it's home to the third location of BabyCakes, which first opened on Broome Street in 2005.

McKenna took to the BabyCakes blog last Wednesday to announce that the bakery's opening in Downtown Disney. It seems that the project had been in the works for two years, after McKenna was initially approached by Larry Levy, the restaurateur whose numerous properties include Chicago's Spiaggia.

Levy, McKenna writes, asked her to "partner with him on a project to bring healthier food to Disney. McDonalds was given the boot and BabyCakes was in, along with [Levy's] other restaurants Pollo Campero and Fresh Apeel."

So! Spelt cupcakes and dairy-free, agave-sweetened banana chocolate chip bread all around! Here's hoping the kids eat them after going on that spinning tea cup ride...
