Shocker: Confused Diners are Going to the Wrong Lambs Club

?Despite a disclaimer on the website, which you may have noticed pops up on just about every website that mentions the Lambs Club, diners can't seem to figure out just where the new Geoffrey Zakarian-cheffed restaurant is. Short answer: it's in The Chatwal Hotel on West 44th Street.

Longer answer...

The original Lambs Club, which was America's first professional theater club, established in 1874, moved from West 44th to West 51st Street exactly 100 years later, in 1974. The newly opened restaurant of the same name was reportedly so christened to pay homage to the original club, but all it seems to have done is piss it off. Randy Phillips, president of the theater group, tells Crain's that he gets calls for reservations at the restaurant every week. So, how does he deal with the confusion? He usually just deletes the messages, he says.

Of course, it's not the only restaurant with an identity crisis these day. Looks like restaurateurs need to take Googlability into greater account when it comes to naming their establishments. Either that, or diners need to learn more advanced research skills in this era of ambiguously named eateries.
