What to Drink at Peels: The Joey Ramone Cocktail

Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.

?????The drink: The Joey Ramone

The bar:
Peels, 325 Bowery

The price: $13

The ingredients: Applejack, fresh lime juice, concord grape syrup, shaken, and served up.

The buzz: What better drink to sip as your stare out onto Joey Ramone Place than one named for the rocker. The upstairs room at Peels is refreshingly airy -- especially in the day -- nothing like the myriad brooding speakeasies that have filled our city's bar scene. This simple variation on a Jack Rose (only the grenadine is swapped out for concord grape syrup) is as easy to enjoy as the space it's served in. Tart and apple-y, the sweet grape syrup softens the citrus, giving it depth and taking the edge off the bite of the applejack. Not exactly the most punk rock drink, but hey, the Bowery ain't what it used to be.
